About Zena Edwards
Hailing from Tottenham, north London, Poet, Zena Edwards graduated in Drama, Media and Communications and studied performance at the London International school Performing Arts. Her poetic collaborations include working with dancers, photographers, choirs and musicians from all over the world and nourish her devising and performance processes. 'Travelling Light' is an artistic progression from her first own woman show called "Security"- a character driven, polemic and gutsy hour long spoken word theatrical piece, where Zena plays Mahmoud, a 47 year old Palestinian man and Algernon, a 82 year old, Antillian war vetran, Ayleen, a 16 year old girl from the 'hood' who is has not fully mourned the murder of her twin brother Elijah. Travelling Light is an 80% autiobiographical production that spans multiple cultures, generations to moments of crippling trauma and uplifting empowerment.
As poet, Zena presence is firmly established on the music and literary scenes with her unique weaving of poetry and storytelling, singing and vocal sound scaping. Her work is published in several anthologies , whilst "Security" is available for sale at "Flipped Eye Publishing".
As project developer and director, Zena curated Verbalized, a British Coucil initiative bringing together 10 poets from the UK ans South African poets for an SA and UK toured of theatrical Spoken Word show in 2010.
Zena is also committed to activism and giving back the community and facilitates workshops and master classes in creative writing and performance to promote Art for Change. SHAKE! is a 4 year Youth Arts and Activism project for young people aged 16 -21 , and is co-developed by Zena with a partnership including African Writers Abroad, Liquorice Fish., Platform and Afrogroov.

It is an evergreen project dedicated to the reconnecting of poetry with other artforms and documenting the processes that occur whilst the artforms arein 'dialogue'. ©V:iD delivers high quality work and aims to challenge audiences as well as bring them spontaneaous, thought-provoking and entertaining performances.
